On IDAHOBIT, HRC Global Honors Courageous LGBTQIA+ Leaders Around the World

WASHINGTON, D.C. — In recognition of  International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT) on Saturday, May 17, the Human Rights Campaign Foundation is proud to spotlight the newly released report from our Global Small Grants Program: Champions of Change. This report uplifts the extraordinary efforts of LGBTQIA+ leaders and organizations around the world who are advancing equality and justice, often in the face of rising hostility, criminalization, and discrimination.

From Ghana to Sri Lanka, Peru to Serbia, these grantees are not just transforming their local communities, but contributing to a global movement through bold, community-led initiatives. Whether training transgender leaders in Southwest China, protecting intersex children in West Africa, or developing healthcare guidelines rooted in human rights, these local champions are driving a global liberation movement.

“In every region, courageous LGBTQIA+ advocates are resisting fear with visibility, hate with hope, and violence with vision,” said Matthew Rose, Senior Public Policy Advocate. “This report is a testament to the power of investing directly in grassroots leaders who know what their communities need and how to deliver it.”

On a day that reminds the world of the urgent need to end anti-LGBTQIA+ stigma and violence, HRC Global is proud of the work we supported this year with our grantees. We are grateful for your continued support in amplifying voices at the frontlines of resistance.

We invite you to read the full report to gain a deeper understanding of the incredible work being done by these LGBTQIA+ leaders.
